Fat Possum Records
Web design, web development, and ecommerce for a record label.
The Sound and The Fury.
Oxford, Mississippi is the patch of soil that produced William Faulkner’s Southern Gothic oeuvre, civil rights milestones, and Confederate-flag-waving Ole Miss football. It’s a part of our nation that has a hard time shelving its past, so it might come as a surprise that’s it’s also home to one of the most progressive record labels in the country. Fat Possum has pumped heavy-hitting blues into the cultural corpus of the deep south since 1992, and although their roster of artists will always rest in the smokey shadows of black-and-blue guitar rock, the past few years have witnessed a total rework of the label’s sound.
The Sound of The Future.
By the late aughts Fat Possum had signed acts like Andrew Bird, The Black Keys and Jay Retard, and they needed a marketing and ecommerce site to promote these hot contemporary acts, as well as service the people clamoring for their back catalog of blues, soul and funk (Al Green’s greatest hits, anyone?). Our custom rails site supports sales of digital and physical albums and singles, allows for in-depth artist profiles (including album preview pages, discography, tours, blog and merch), and integrates directly with Amazon S3 – the storage solution for the thousands of burly song files that needed to be downloaded quickly and cheaply by a customer. The aesthetic is clean and modern, a nice canvas for the photos and art of musicians from Ann Peebles to MellowHype. We continue to support Fat Possum’s site as they add to their roster and become increasingly influential in the independent music scene.
