Drag City
Web design, development and ecommerce for long-standing Chicago indie label.
Lord knows, there’s nothing out there quite like Drag City. Formed in 1990 by Dan & Dan, these two guys started what we like to call the original indie label, though we aren’t sure that this is completely true. They were the home of seminal indie band Pavement and since have formed the HQ for a diverse cadre of performers: Bonnie “Prince” Billy Cave, Joanna Newsom, Royal Trux, Cynthia Dall, Faun Fables, Scott Walker, Bill Callahan, Stereolab, Jim O’Rourke, Six Organs of Admittance, U.S. Maple, Ghost, Flying Saucer Attack,Movietone, The Fucking Champs, Papa M, Silver Jews, Monotonix, and Om.
We had the honor to develop a custom online store and storefront for this legendary company. Working with the drawings of owner Dan K, we turned the label’s well-known cartoons into a functional and amazingly modern site, pushing them years ahead of their peers and literally launching an entirely new and rich business stream. Using our customizable back-end CMS, “PilotPort”, we enabled digital download and physical sales, tracking and a host of organizational and editorial features.
